How to Look Your Best on Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a holiday to celebrate time with your friends and family but also a weekend where it is totally acceptable to eat all the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, jam and pumpkin pie that you can possibly squeeze into your mouth. With this said, it is only natural to want to wear something not so tight fitting, yet still look like a Thanksgiving Fashionista.

The oversized look is so in this season and its the perfect outfit to make  yourself look trendy in a no-so-tight fashion. There are a few different way to make this look one to remember:

1. The first look you can do it a jeweled sweater with corduroy pants. This look is sure to catch an eye with the highly fashionable spiked or studded sweater and be totally comfortable with colored corduroy pants. Brands such as J Brand and Blank NYC carry cords with some stretch in the waist, perfect for those turkey day binge sessions.

2. Another great outfit would be leggings (whats more comfortable?), a flowy shirt, blazer, and chunky jewelry or an infinity scarf. A big necklace or earrings is a great replacement for layered bracelets considering that you don’t want the bracelets getting in the way of you reaching for another piece of turkey. If you can’t part with your arm party, go with a big cocktail ring and you’ll forget all about the bracelets tucked away in your room.

3. If you’re aiming for something a little more dressed-up, go with a skirt/dress ensemble that has the two essentials: stretch and sparkle. Throw on a jersey or sweatshirt material skirt that has some embellishment on it, and pair it with an oversized cardigan or batwing top in a neutral color. Throw on big earrings or statement necklace and you’ll be good to go!

If you’re just looking to put things in your closet together to make a cute Thanksgiving holiday outfit, you can’t go wrong with leggings/jeans and any oversized basics. Then all you have to do is accessorize it with any of the options above such as a scarf, chunky necklace, or a studded jacket or blazer to make it dinner party appropriate.

Campus Style - City School Inspired

Every college campus has their own style and trends depending on location, weather, student culture. I may be a little biased, but the city schools are definitely the ones who set the trends and are the ones to keep an eye on. Need some inspiration? Here are some college trending topics that can make getting a degree that much more stylish.

It’s time to put your high over-the-knee boots back in your closet and take out the heeled booties. The booties look superb with skinny jeans and just about any sweater (as shown below). Combined, these items make the perfect fall outfit, all you need is a great handbag to carry to class or the local coffee shop. Booties can be dressed down to be worn to class - just add leggings, an oversized sweater and a scarf - or dressed up to be worn out to a nice dinner. To take the transition from day to night, add a jersey or sweater dress with opaque tights.

On a  more casual note, vests are the perfect topper to pair with a long sleeve shirt or sweater on your way out the door to class. They are comfortable warm and stylish…. what could be better. A popular look this fall is a flannel shirt paired with a vest, skinny jeans and combat boots. If that’s not exactly your style, go for a sweater, vest and boots for the comfy, ready for class look.

There are also some staple pieces that can be found on any campus (shown below). These pieces include: Longchamp bags, North Face jackets, Hunter boots, and Tory Burch flats. These are very durable, comfortable, and reliable items that ever college girl must have in her closet in order to get through four years of lectures, labs, and discussions. Have these items in your style artillery and you’ll never be late for class again!

Layers: How to Keep Warm Through the Breezy Fall Season

Even though the leaves are changing colors and the weather is getting brisk, there is no reason to put away your summer take tops and dresses. All you have to do is layer. Here are some of my favorite layering methods of the Fall season:

The blazer: A blazer does not only have to be worn in the office…it is the perfect mix between classy and dreamy. Wearing a blazer over any outfit is a foolproof plan. Blazers are ideal if it’s too warm for a jacket but too chilly to wear a dress by itself. You can stay simple with a solid color or you can get more risky with it and go with a metallic, gold sequin blazer (like Whitney Port’s look below, one similar can be found here).

Tights under shorts: what are you to do when you didn’t get to wear your favorite pair of cut off jeans shorts as much as you would have liked? You can put tights under them! It’s a brilliant idea that allows you to wear your favorite summer clothes past September and still stay warm! Don this look during the day with opaque, colored tights and tweed shorts, or try it out at night with denim cut-offs and black tights (like Alexa Chung’s look below).

Scarf it Up: Wearing a scarf on the chilliest of the fall days is a guaranteed way to stay warm. My personal favorite is the infinity scarf, a huge trend that makes throwing one on in the morning a no-brainer. Whether you rock an infinity or stick with the original, scarves are perfect for this type of weather because you can wear them in so many different ways! (Seriously, there’s a whole website devoted to them.) The scarf look is made even better when worn under a leather or jean jacket, creating the perfect fall ensemble.

A Message to Our Customers and Consignors

Dear Valued Customers and Consignors,

Our thoughts are with all of you affected by Hurricane Sandy during this difficult time.

We are working around the clock to reopen all of our stores in New York City and New Jersey.

The following stores are without power and currently closed for business.

New York
Thompson Street
Mott Street
Murray Hill
Chelsea
Gramercy Park

New Jersey
Hoboken
Westfield

Due to our systems being down, consignment checks for the stores without power could not be issued on November 1 as planned. As soon as power is restored, all checks over $100 will be processed. As far as we are aware at this time, we do not have damages to our stores or consigned merchandise from the hurricane.

The best way to contact us with questions or concerns is to email [email protected]. We will respond to all inquiries as soon as possible.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and we wish you all the best in your recovery from the hurricane.

Sincerely,
The STA Team

How To: Halloween-ize your Work Attire

In a professional environment such as work or school, you want to maintain a sophisticated look but you can’t let your Halloween spirit down! Here are the top ways to spruce up your outfit, get in the holiday groove, yet still look like you belong in an office environment.

Halloween Nail Art:
Changing your nail design is one of the best ways to show changes in season, mood, and even holidays. You can go big and paint on ghosts or pumpkins, or you can be subtler with black nail polish with orange glitter on top. For amazing DIY Halloween manicures, visit http://holymanicures.blogspot.com.

Headband:
A nice Halloween designed headband is a discreet way to pull off some Halloween spirit. It also guarantees you a professional/preppy look. One like this is simple, so easily prepared, and even able to be made in the luxury of your own home.

Halloween Tights:
This fall season patterned tights are more popular than ever. Just slip a pair of candy corn or ghost patterned tights under a simple dress and you’re guaranteed to look festive.

Anything Orange:
A professional looking orange blazer or a pair of light orange denim jeans could easily do the trick and make you look extra spirited in a somewhat professional manner. An orange cashmere scarf or orange shoe apparel is a more subtle way to look the part.

A Note from the CEO: Big Changes

When we sent out a client survey, you all responded with your praise, critiques and suggestions for STA. Well we listened!

Starting this month, we are rolling out new plans that will make consigning and shopping with STA even better.

Instead of waiting every 60 days for your consignment payout, you’ll now be getting paid every month. If your balance is over $100, we’ll automatically send you a check. However, if your monthly balance is under $100, you can pick up a check the first of the following month.

We also understand that your workweek can be hectic, and finding the time for a consignment appointment is a challenge. This is why we’re now taking appointments on Saturdays and Sundays in addition to our Monday-Friday appointment times.

We’ve also revamped our website, with our online account capabilities now better than ever. If you have ever had issues with logging in or tracking your items, we sincerely apologize. Those technical issues have been resolved and our new system aims to be completely hassle-free. Should you ever have any questions or need to contact a customer service representative, we have a dedicated team behind all of your needs.

On top of these new improvements, we are also in the process of opening several new stores. We just opened our doors in three new locations in New York City - one on 72nd Street and Amsterdam Ave, one on 92nd Street and Madison Ave, and one on 19th Street and Third Ave in the Gramercy Park area. In addition, we are opening up a store mid-November in Huntington, Long Island, as well as looking at spaces in more towns in New Jersey and other locations all over the eastern United States. If you have any suggestions as to where we should open a store, I’d love to hear it! Feel free to send me an email at [email protected].
