Our History

In 1973, when Dottie Casler opened a small consignment shop just outside Boston, she was simply a woman with discerning tastes and an overflowing closet. But over the course of the next 35 years, this small business would grow into the largest and most reputable high‐end consignment brand in New England.

From day one, Second Time Around has been on a mission to bring New England’s shoppers the stylish, trend‐setting, and affordable clothing they crave. It’s no surprise that today, Second Time Around has a dedicated customer base and 24 store locations stretching as far west as Chicago.

Dottie’s son Jeff Casler took the reigns of Second Time Around in the 1980s. With an eye for style and a sharp business sensibility, Jeff set out to achieve the holy grail for Boston‐area retailers — a spot on Newbury Street, the city’s fashion mecca. In 1990, Jeff opened new stores in Boston and in Cambridge and as the company’s footprint grew, so did the buzz surrounding its unique take on high‐end retail. Today, Second Time Around boasts more than 50,000 active consignors and a cult‐like following of loyal customers. Our stores are located in the chicest and most visited shopping locations in the U.S., from Boston’s famous Newbury Street to trendy Soho in New York City to D.C.’s tony Georgetown neighborhood.
