FAQ

1) What is consignment?
When a person consigns, they provide merchandise to a third party — in this case, Second Time Around — to be sold. Once the merchandise has sold, the consignor and the third party split the proceeds from said sale.

2) Does Second Time Around purchase clothing for cash up front?
No. Instead, your clothing is left on consignment, and payment is provided for items that have sold at the close of a pay period.

3) What are your criteria for accepting consignment?

  1. Second Time Around accepts high-end designers and better brand-name labels.
  2. Articles should be of a current style and generally no more than two years old.
  3. Articles should be in new or like-new condition.
  4. Garments should be freshly dry cleaned or laundered.
  5. There is a three-piece minimum to start an account.
  6. Second Time Around prefers that garments arrive at stores neatly folded in bags, rather than on hangers.

6) How long is the consignment period?
The consignment period lasts 90 days. At the end of the 90 days, each consignor is given an additional seven-day grace period to pick up any items that have not sold. Once this seven-day grace period expires, all unclaimed merchandise becomes property of Second Time Around.

7) What happens to my consigned items if I do NOT pick them up by the end of the seven-day grace period?
If you do not pick up your items, they become property of Second Time Around.

8) If I have second thoughts about selling an item, may I pick it up at any time?
You may retrieve unsold items at any time prior to the close of the 97th day of consignment (see #6 above). The items are yours until we sell them to somebody else!

9) Who sets the price?
Second Time Around determines the price. We price items at approximately a third to a quarter of their original retail price. If an item is brand new with the retailer’s original hang tags, we price an item at approximately half of the original retail price.

10) How does Second Time Around know how much to charge for my consigned items?
Any employee that is responsible for pricing consignment has been well trained and has extensive experience working at Second Time Around. In addition, if there is ever any question about the proper price, we will research the item or consult the consignor before pricing it. We have been in business for more than 35 years, and we always get the most for our consignors while still providing our customers with the greatest value!

11) How will I be paid?
At the close of one of our quarterly billing cycles, you will be paid in one of two ways:

  1. If the balance in your consignment account is $100 or more, a check will be mailed to the address on file. *If your address changes during the consignment period, be sure to update it by calling the store(s) at which you consign!
  2. If the balance in your consignment account is $99 or less, you may come by the store and pick up a check.

12) Great! I’m ready to get started. May I just drop off items for consignment at any time?
Consignment items are reviewed by appointment or you can learn about our drop off policy here . Call your local Second Time Around [insert link to store locations] to book an appointment, or click here to schedule one online.
