It’s quickly approaching that time of year again, that time when it becomes necessary to swap out your bikinis for sweaters and your flip flops for combat boots in anticipation of the colder weather. For some it can be difficult to put away those favorite pieces you’ve been rocking all summer, but luckily there are a few items that you can and should keep around to coordinate into your fall fashion. Here are some ideas of how to make your summer clothing items work this fall!

The key to extending the length of wear-ability of your favorite sundresses is stocking up on light jackets! Think simple blazers, cropped sweaters, over-sized shalls, and the classic denim jacket. Pairing your floral sundress with one of these items can make it appropriate for fall especially if you ditch the sandals for a pair of closed toe heels.  Tights can and should be added in order to make them weather appropriate.  Once tights are added don’t be afraid to pair feminine dress  with a more edgier pair of boots, this mixing of styles is what fall fashion is all about. As for the tights, they can make your favorite dark shorts and skirts work far into the fall season, so be sure to stock up on those stockings ;)

Any full-length pant can be made appropriate for fall no matter what the pattern or color. If you don’t know what to pair with your favorite pants with, go for something out of your comfort zone whether that be a fur vest or an over-sized cardigan. As for your bags, don’t ditch your neutral beach bag so quickly! These bags can definitely carry over and work with your fall looks.  Another must have in your closet: leggings.  When in doubt, legging it out! Besides being the most comfy item in your closet, they will keep you warm and won’t take away from the rest of your outfit.

We guarantee you’ll be amazed with how much a scarf can do to help an outfit go from summer to fall chic. With that being said, no matter how many new accessories you’ve just added to  your collection, try not to wear them all at once! Rather plan out outfits in your mind that each new accessory can be worn with.  Another cautionary tip: beware of wearing too many layers, it is important not get lost in your own outfit!
