Campus Style – City School Inspired
Nov 16th
Every college campus has their own style and trends depending on location, weather, student culture. I may be a little biased, but the city schools are definitely the ones who set the trends and are the ones to keep an eye on. Need some inspiration? Here are some college trending topics that can make getting a degree that much more stylish.
It’s time to put your high over-the-knee boots back in your closet and take out the heeled booties. The booties look superb with skinny jeans and just about any sweater (as shown below). Combined, these items make the perfect fall outfit, all you need is a great handbag to carry to class or the local coffee shop. Booties can be dressed down to be worn to class – just add leggings, an oversized sweater and a scarf – or dressed up to be worn out to a nice dinner. To take the transition from day to night, add a jersey or sweater dress with opaque tights.
On a more casual note, vests are the perfect topper to pair with a long sleeve shirt or sweater on your way out the door to class. They are comfortable warm and stylish…. what could be better. A popular look this fall is a flannel shirt paired with a vest, skinny jeans and combat boots. If that’s not exactly your style, go for a sweater, vest and boots for the comfy, ready for class look.
There are also some staple pieces that can be found on any campus (shown below). These pieces include: Longchamp bags, North Face jackets, Hunter boots, and Tory Burch flats. These are very durable, comfortable, and reliable items that ever college girl must have in her closet in order to get through four years of lectures, labs, and discussions. Have these items in your style artillery and you’ll never be late for class again!

Weekending Tips: Get Style with Your Comfort
Sep 28th
FashioniSTA fact. I love the weekends and everything they mean – sleeping in, brunching, and loungewear. With this, brings such a FashioniSTA challenge. How can I dress my best, even if it’s just to the farmers market or out to coffee? Fear not, these off-hours pointers have me (and you) covered head-to-toe.
Saturday and Sunday comfort is key. I adore these fitted thermal tops by Splendid (shown below, and I even snagged a few on a recent STA jaunt down Newbury Street). Its sleeves stay in place – even when pushed up on a warm fall day. Always make sure to accessorize with personal style-defining wrist wear (for me, this chunky chain bracelet) to really give a unique look to a basic closet staple.
Weekends normally include a brunch with my besties. For this, I suggest a blazer (they’re not meant for just work!). Any FashioniSTA can toss on one with a structured shoulder, or a bit of dazzle that doesn’t necessarily scream 9-to-5 (like this one pictured below from METROPARK). The best part about a blazer is you can throw it on with just your favorite pair of jeans and a black tank and instantly look put-together.
Admittedly, I am an advocate of a pair of thick black leggings as appropriate weekend-wear pants. For those who steer clear of the legging-as-pants trend, JCrew offers the single comfiest pant option with their Saturday Pant (pictured below left). Paired with a classic pair of Tory Burch flats (pictured below right) or your favorite printed pair, this casual ensemble looks undeniably smart. You’ll never looked like you just rolled out of bed again.
Other weekend can’t-go-wrong staples? Supersoft cashmere pullovers. Stretchy black jeggings. A broken-in pair of Minnetonka moccasins. Happy weekending!

Eila’s NYFW Pick of the Day: Pop of Sunshine
Sep 17th
Today’s Pick: Pop of Sunshine
Summer’s barely over, and the NYFW runways already have us lusting for sunshine. Yellow was a favorite from Tory Burch and Alice & Olivia. Elia eyed this Chado Ralph Rucci gown that takes pops of yellow into nighttime elegance. With a delicate tulle skirt, and intricate sheer bodice, this daytime hue goes right into the creme de la creme of eveningwear.

Back to School and Campus Cool
Aug 24th
Summer is nearing it’s end which means last minute vacation getaways, fall fashion, and the most dreaded back to school. Although going back to school isn’t very exciting for most of us, the shopping for back to school is. With so many new trends and with those trends circling their way around each year, we’ve come up with a few fashioniSTA back to school basics for your wardrobe. Not only are these pieces super versatile, but they will keep you looking stylish all year long.
The Jacket
Basic Black Blazer: First and foremost, if your closet does not already have one of these hanging in it, GET ONE. A blazer is an absolute wardrobe essential. Wear it over your sun dresses or shorts for a great transitional summer to fall look, and pair it with jeans and ballet flats for an effortlessly chic look.
Biker Jacket: A motorcycle inspired topper is a favorite jacket for spring or fall. We love fun details like zippers, buckles, or studs, but if that’s not your style, opt for a simple jacket in white or brown. Again, these jackets look great over your summer dresses or a feminine blouse- the contrast is super stylish and edgy.
Faux Fur Vest: Bring on the layers this fall because we love love love a layered look with a fur vest! Girls, wear it over everything (even your biker jacket).
The Jeans
Boyfriend: These laid back and comfortable jeans are perfect for the campus or classroom. They have that “I-just-rolled-out-of-bed-and-still-look-amazing” effortless style to them. Pair them with a plain white tee and a fun pair of flats.
Legging: Oh-so-comfy and stylish. Can’t go wrong.
Colored: Last fall colored denim really made a name for itself, and this year the trend is still going strong. We love a pair of brightly colored jeans paired with a neutral chunky knit sweater and moto-boots.
Printed: If you want to make a statement in your classroom, rock a pair of printed jeans- just make sure to keep the rest of your look simple and neutral.
The Top
Chambray: This stylish lightweight shirt is the it shirt for back to school this year. Wear it with your dark skinny jeans, wedges, and top it with your fur vest. Such a great look.
Plaid: A cool, casual shirt that can be dressed up with a pretty layered necklace and skinny jeans, or dressed down with leggings and sneakers.
Chunky Knits: This season stock up on cozy cable knits in neutrals of gray, cream, and tan. Wear them with your colored jeans or leggings and boots.
Neon: Color is huge trend this fall. Neon has thrived through spring and summer and now making it’s way into fall. Take your colorful clothes you wore all summer, and maybe some fresh new additions as well, and pair them with all your favorite fall pieces. Neon and fall neutrals are a killer color combo.
The Shoes
Fun Flats: Patent, colored, printed. Our fashoiniSTA favorites are Tory Burch Revas. And leopard print.. of course.
Moto-Boots: These boots are fall must-haves. They go with everything and add a little edge to any outfit.
Wedges: Since the last thing you want to do is walk though school and around campus in heels, go for a great pair of neutral wedges (in a moderate height- comfort is key).
Sneakers: This fall a bright pair of sneakers are a back to school staple. Comfortable and cool. We love classic Chuck Taylors, but Keds and Nike are some other classics worth adding to your shoe collection. Wear them with your leggings, a sweater and biker jacket.
Rain Boots: For obvious reasons. Plus, they are super cute- go ahead, wear them with your colored jeans, shorts or even dresses. Thank you Kate Moss for making rain boots stylish.

The FashioniSTA’s Summer Wedding Essentials
Aug 3rd
While summer weddings are guaranteed fun times of dancing, drinking, and plenty of ooh-ing and aah-ing at the lovely couple, it also raises the question of what to wear? With so many different types of ceremonies and parties, there are endless opportunities for style. We’ve chosen a few different looks and fashioniSTA essentials for any kind of wedding you may attend this summer!
Whether you’re celebrating in Nantucket, Cape Cod, The Hamptons, or Kennebunkport, anywhere along the shore is a perfect opportunity to play up that preppy beach chic look. Go ahead and wear a fun, festive seasonal color- it is summer after all. Accessorize with simple, classic accessories, and don’t forget to wear flat sandals, you don’t want to be wearing heels on the beach!
Above: Dress, J.Crew. Jewelry, Kate Spade. Sandals, Mystique.
For a traditional wedding, you can never go wrong with an LBD. Since this summer has graced us with the trend of the peplum, try a dress which has that feminine detail and shows off your shape. If the ceremony is held in a church, it’s a good idea to bring a light sweater or cardigan to cover up your shoulders. Add simple bangles and earrings, and choose a great pair of heels which you are able to dance in.
Above: Dress, Alice + Olivia. Clutch, similar one here by Lauren Merkin. Shoes, Christian Louboutin.
Backyard weddings, barn weddings, and garden parties are some of the most fun, casual, and laid back celebrations. Wear a light-weight, breathable dress- barns and backyards can become very stuffy and hot during a party. Accessorize with rustic, effortless jewelry and a neutral clutch. For outdoor weddings, wedges are a must! The last thing a fashioniSTA needs are the heels to her Louboutins sinking into the dirt!

Black tie weddings may be the most difficult to shop for, but if you think of it as playing dress-up, it can also be the most fun! Look for a classic gown that will last forever. Choose black or a classic color that will never go out of style, and steer away from trends! Go for a simple gown, with a simple silhouette and simple details- classic and chic. Antique jewelry is a great way to accessorize for a black tie event, it’s unique and always glamourous. Carry a small structured clutch, and add sparkly sandals to brighten your step.

Let’s Go To the Beach, Let’s Get Away…
Jul 25th
When heading to the beach this summer, be sure to do it in style. Here are eight essentials for a fashioniSTA’s seaside getaway!
1. Fun, Flattering Swimwear
There are endless possibilities of swimwear styles each year. We recommend going for a classic, flattering suit with a bit of a twist- whether its a pop of color or fun print, like the ones above all from J.Crew.
2. Complimentary Cover-Up
Pair your swim suit with a pretty cover-up. We love this one from DVF. Not only is a Diane von Furstenberg print always in style, but this tunic can take you from the beach, to the beach bar or restaurant, to running errands around town- comfortable, effortless and chic.
3. Beach Flip-Flops
Havaianas are a summer must-have for fashioniSTAs- the most comfortable and practical rubber flip-flop. They come in a variety of colors and prints, and you can even design your own to perfectly show off your summer style and personality.
4. Tory Tote
It’s no secret that we love Tory Burch at STA, so when it’s time to tote all your summer goods to the beach, we favor a Tory Burch carry-all.
5. Sun Protection
Keep your skin moisturized and protected with a good SPF.
6. Beach Bedding
Nothing says summer like a colorful Missoni knit, so when you’re laying on the beach, sunning in the sand, sun in style with a Missoni print beach towel.
7. Quality Reading Material
Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, WWD, Glamour, Elle, etc…oh and Fifty Shades of Grey, obviously.
8. Summer Tunes
Currently on the fashioniSTA summer playlist:
Robyn “Hang With Me”
Ellie Goulding “Lights”
Josh Turner “All Over Me”
New Kids On The Block “Summertime”
Avicii “Silhouettes”
Vanessa Carlton “White Houses”
Zac Brown Band “Toes”

A Fashionable Fourth of July
Jul 1st
The Fourth of July is the perfect time of year to show off your patriotic side. With looks of red, white, and blue, there are an unlimited amount of stylish ways to celebrate. Whether you’re going to a cookout, beach party, or just watching the fireworks with the family, here are some fashioniSTA wardrobe essentials that will have you looking the most festive this fourth.
Cookout Cool
For those of you backyard barbecuing, a pair of distressed denim shorts, like these from Joe’s Jeans, are a must-have and the perfect base to any outfit! Not only are these laid back bottoms comfortable and classic, but extremely versatile as well. Add a flirty tank top in summer stripes to top off your look- we love this one from Tory Burch. Take this look from cookout casual to city chic by adding a blazer and gladiator sandals.
Party Pretty
An effortless look for any Fourth of July celebration is summer’s favorite dress: the maxi. Sport the dress in any one of the holiday’s colors for an easy, chic look. This Michael Stars maxi in bright blue is perfectly on trend and perfectly appropriate for the fourth. Pair a simple maxi with statement pieces such as some bold baubles, or a statement bag, like the Rebecca Minkoff “Mini M.A.C.” we have been coveting all season.
Beach Babe
For the beach goers, display your reds, whites, and blues proudly in a colorful swim suit and cover-up. We love this American Flag bikini from Ralph Lauren paired with this pretty eyelet cover-up, another great find from Tory Burch. Finish your look with the just the right beach accessories and flip flop around the with summer’s best sandals and fashioniSTA favorites, Jack Roger’s “Navajo.” Lastly, be sure to tote all your beach needs in style as well with a nautical inspired carryall like this one from Marc by Marc Jacobs.
No matter what your plans are for celebrating this fourth, these fashioniSTA picks of red, white and blue are just the right touches to add some festive flair to your look. So grab some sparklers and celebrate in style!
